Located southwest of Wicker Park, the Ukrainian Village was settled largely due to the construction of the elevated train in 1895, later demolished in 1964. The Ukrainian Village has many landmarks including the Roberto Clemente High School, St. Mary´s Hospital, and the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral. In 2002, part of the Ukrainian Village was designated a Chicago Landmark District.
The East Ukrainian Village has hundred year old homes that are constantly being renovated and now is filled with tree-lined streets, apartments, renovated homes and flats. You can park here without a permit and the Blue Line and Metra are just a few blocks away.
