Getting its start as an industrial area, Chicago´s River North neighborhood later became a warehouse district.  In the 1970´s, when the warehouses closed down, many artists and writers flocked to the area looking for lofts and studio spaces.  Since then the River North neighborhood has been transformed into a chic, cultural area filled with galleries, antique stores and specialty shops.  River North is situated north of the Loop, west of Michigan Avenue, and south of Chicago Avenue.  The Chicago River is its boundary on the south and west as well. 

Although a favorite destination for tourists, River North is home to many professionals who have made it their home due to its location.  Many live in townhomes, mid-rise condos and warehouse that have been renovated into upscale lofts.  One of the most popular places to reside is Marina City, where residents can watch over the Chicago River.  There are several restaurants and clubs, the Excalibur, Sound-Bar, Bin 36, and the House of Blues, that are open late.
